Blue is for Grandpa

Last year Sharron's daughters Georgia and Lana were art directed to create one of the first "Works With Little Pros" masterpieces for their grandpa Porkies TV Room.  He was stoked!  Sharron's daughters were really excited and their grandmother was utterly delighted.  The large abstract piece worked in very nicely, complimenting Nanna's traditional drapes, but also adding a delightful touch of sponteneity too and a modern twist.

Decor Hints:  You see you can mesh styles together if your colour is carefully considered.  Too many colours in a room will add to visual clutter and take away any peaceful feeling.  Practice with a room that doesn't look right to you by taking away any colours that don't fit with the main 1, 2 or 3 colour scheme and you'll be amazed at the difference!
If you want to learn more about this we supply you with a free colour wheel and teach you how to use it at your free art appointments or a $70 per hour fee will get WFYH helping you with your decor if you aren't ready to commission art yet.

So, Sharron had to convince her Mum that her furniture needed shifting and to change her accessories!  For a sense of peace, it is important to balance objects in your room.  Centered arrangements create a more formal style, whereas for an informal atmosphere, unbalanced arrangements work best…but, you must be careful that it still has visual balance.  If you hang art centered on a wall, don’t then arrange furniture off balance to it, unless you are going to balance it further with artworks on either side.

The other trick in good decor, as you can see in the photos here, is accessories.  With Porkie’s space featuring a dominant colour scheme of red and blue, too many other incidental colours like bright copper and green, made the room look cluttered.  With vases and flowers, you can easily see that the blue vase with red poppies is far easier on the eye than the original strong copper or dark green vase on the coffee table...that's introducing more colour!  If you have an accent colour, for instance the gold shown in the cushions, limit it then you will have a tri colour combination with 2 dominant colours.  The gold is featured in the tones of the rooms furniture so it is harmonious.  You can see that the gold pictured in the poppies centres’ is enough.

A word about greens which you will hear Sharron say again and again, is that green can be a trap.  If you have green objects in your room, make sure the plant greenery is the same green.  There is blue-green, green and yellow-green to choose from and because we love plants or silk arrangemnets in our homes, we often forget that they have colour which may not be the same as other greens.  Keep them the same or they'll stand out as visual clutter and you may not realise why you will keep looking at it, feeling like something isn't right.
