Moroccan Mothers Room

Interior Designer Regina Rowlison of In House Concepts (Brisbane) requested Sharron help her design budget artworks for the 2 Ipswich city shopping centre breast feeding rooms. "We very quickly solved all spatial and colour issues, while deciding upon taking tired mums away from the hum drum and simultaneously entertaining any young children.

Using slim collaged panels of art and a palette complimentary to the floor and chair, freshened with bold patterns and textures in bright, siesta colours, we created a Mexican them with an illusion of space. Collaged sand, rocks, shells and wild animals helped to fascinate young children whilst their texture warmed the space. Mothers have since flocked to the concierge to compliment the centre of the change!"

Decor Tips- When there is nothing but walls, a chair and a floor, picking a theme is easy!  A room has colour, texture, proportion and line to work with.  Use your imagination and have fun, dreaming of places that relate to your colour scheme.  In this case, we had a natural timber floor and sandy coloured walls and a caramel leather tub chair along with children and weary parents all caught in ‘Groundhog Day’, doing their usual parenting duties and so we took them to a Moroccan dessert…why not!  By working with colour and considering your occupants and the room’s use and picturing stories in your minds eye, you’ll think of a theme; then just stick to it.  Don’t forget art, it puts you there and then let accessories fill in the story.

Regina whose successful decorating business is based in Scarborough gives us this hint of designing a theme from scratch.  “The best starting point is ascertaining what you wish to achieve, such as inspiring and cheerful or calming and soothing and then determining the colours and style to create it. Taking into consideration what you have to work with and what must be changed, it’s then finding your courage to add your own touch of creativity and voila, you have created your desired look you are after!“
