An utterly delightful day was spent at the Brighton Day Care Centre art directing the 4-5 year olds to help me paint Australia, its states and the wavy sea around it. Preparation always plays a huge part when working with children, so I will mask off areas leaving them spaces to simply colour in. Children in this age group are able to follow instructions quite well and can help me achieve reasonably complex works of art which I will also plan an agenda for. The works can still match the interior décor, can use colour psychology (for instance orange is helpful to autistic children,) and can include special effects. In this case, the land has been painted with colour infused with metallic bronze, gold or pale gold and iridescence has been applied for a shimmery, shiny sea.
Works can be done in a day. Children can still have their mid day nap and usual meal times. I keep working though - painting, cleaning, organising and You need have very little interruption to your own routine and simply enjoy the experience of not having to do it yourself!
