Birds Of Paradise

For Greg Ralph, Colour Blindness means he can't see purples that well and that tone can be hard to perceive so this floral art design, tailored to his and wife Pamela's decor took this into consideration by keeping the artwork in high contrast.

Deciding to stay put in their old family home rather than move, the couple is gradually updating their decor with more colour.  The floral design came from talk of revamping the garden in front of their formal room and from a vase of silk Magnolias in the adjoining dining room.

As interior decorating is about making associations, taking the green colour from the Magnolias, was a lovely way to increase freshness.  Adding Birds of Paradise flowers added to the theme and gave spark with Reds, Orange and Golds all matching the existing decor.  The 2 paintings hang either side of a mirror, yet to be purchased, which will reflect the garden of Magnolia and Bird of Paradise outside.

Decor Tips

  • The lounge curtains and glass are the wrong colour being a Yellow Green.  Replace with white blinds and clear glass as per dining area.
  • Now that colour is in the room, take the Reds, Orange, Yellow Orange and Green, scattering it in small objects i.e books, magazines, nick nacks, cushions around the space.
  • Plant Magnolia and Bird of Paradise at the window to balance colour and increase theme.
  • Take away the small book shelf under the right hand painting and replace with a feature chair and a small coffee table under the mirror
  • A curvy feature lamp stand behind the new coffee table would add flare and create cosy atmosphere at night
  • Center the ornate table of vases and plates under the print and tidy electrical cables underneath.
