Brisbane Women's Club events

Sharron was invited to speak and give a taste of a Work and Play Picasso session over 2 weekends at the exclusive Brisbane Women's Club at Elizabeth St, Brisbane in late 2009.  Sharron effectively spoke on the basic rules of decorating; how colour works and how to use a colur wheel to improve colour at home, how to create decor theme, style and balance as well as on the benefits of using certain colours for their colour psychology to aid business.

As well as this speech, which captivated an audience of 34 ladies for half an hour each time, Sharron had prepared a delightful day of painting.  She designed an art deco inspired floral design in gold, green, yellow, black and white on a small 30cm square canvas suitable for hanging on a small wall.

Each of the ladies, all painting at tables together at the club tearoom, added their own spin to the style whilst following written instructions and each getting personal painting tips from Sharron during the session.  The following weekend, the ladies exhibited their paintings to one another and Sharron spoke to them again using the clubs existing art collection to explain how to achieve balance in their art.

Decor tips for art on a small wall

  • Small artworks suit small walls

  • Yellow, green and white are all receeding colours and are excellent for making spaces appear larger.

  • Use light colours.  Dark colours will advance in space appearing larger, light colours don't.  Touches of dark colours will add contrast.

  • Reds especially will jump out at you, adding spark, but will stand out in a room where there isn't much bright colour.

  • Pictures can be matt or framed with glass.  Glass will reflect light and again appear smaller.

  • Small designs suit small spaces and large designs for large spaces.

  • Hang your artwork so that the center is at eye view.  Preferably line up the tops of frames, or bottoms depending on your artworks size, keeping centers at eyeline view.
